Museum of Baseballs: MLB Postseason. From 1996 to 1999, and 2012-2019, Major League Baseball playoff games featured a Rawlings special event logo ball, unique for each season. Each commemorative logo, for every playoff series ball, was different. How refreshing! In the ’90s, these were National and American League balls, naturally. The very last official National League and American League baseballs ever used in official game play were post season / playoff baseballs. Two of the best ever made too, the 1999 NLCS and ALCS baseballs. Major League Baseballs dissolved the league presidents’ offices and ushered in a new era for the new millennium with the corporate blue ROMLB ball in 2000.
Beginning in 2012, the league brought back Postseason gamers, using a universal ball for all postseason matchups each year until the World Series. From 2012 til 2017, it was stamped in shiny beautiful silver ink. Then the Big Leagues switched ink colors to that cold, dark, corporate MLB navy blue in 2018. But at least we still had MLB Postseason commemoratives to look forward to, right? Well not for long. Unfortunately these special playoff game balls were retired following the 2019 season.
